How to install the Law Insider Word Add-In

Installing the Law Insider Word Add-In gives you direct access to Standard playbooks, AI-powered suggestions, and other smart tools to help you review legal documents faster and with more confidence — all without leaving Word.

✅ Recommended Installation: From the Word Add-In Store

If you're already signed in to Microsoft Word with your Microsoft account, this is the easiest way to install the Add-In.

Steps:

1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Click “Add-ins” in the top menu
3. Select “More Add-ins”
4. In the modal that appears, search for “Law Insider”

5. Click Add next to the Law Insider Add-In

You’re done! The Add-In will now appear in your Word ribbon.

💡 Note: This method works best with Microsoft 365 Word or Word 2021, and if your Microsoft account allows store access.

🧰 Alternate Installation: Using the Manifest File

If you’re unable to use the Add-In store (e.g., due to corporate settings or login issues), you can install the Add-In manually using the manifest file.

Step 1: Check Availability

1. Open Microsoft Word
2. Navigate to Add-ins:
   • Click Insert tab in the ribbon
   • Click Get Add-ins (or My Add-ins in older versions)
3. Look for Upload Option:
   • In the Office Add-ins dialog, click "My Add-ins" tab
   • Look for "Upload My Add-in", "Add a custom add-in", or "Browse" at the bottom
   • If you DON'T see these options, this method is blocked by your organization

Step 2: If Upload Option Is Available

1. Prepare Your Manifest File:
   • Ensure you have the manifest.xml file (the add-in configuration)
2. Upload the Manifest:
   • Click "Browse" or "Upload My Add-in from File"
   • Navigate to your manifest.xml file and select it
   • Click "Upload"
3. Accept Security Warning:
   • Word will display a security dialog asking if you trust this add-in
   • Click "Trust It" or "Install" to proceed

In Word Online

1. Visit office.com and log in with your Microsoft account.
2. Open a new Word document
3. Install the Add-In

• Click “Add-ins” in the top menu

• Select “More Add-ins”

• In the modal, go to the “MY ADD-INS” tab

• Open the dropdown that says “Manage My Add-ins”
• Select “Upload My Add-in”

5. Upload the manifest file

All done! - The Law Insider Add-In should now appear in your Word ribbon.
