Required Word Version To Run Word Add-In

🚩 Common Issue

If you see a red banner in the Add-In that says:

“This add-in requires Word API version 1.4 or later. For best results, please use Microsoft 365 Word, Word 2021, or Word Online.”

…it means your current version is below the supported threshold and must be updated.


✅ Minimum Requirements

To run the SimpleDocs Word Add-In with full functionality, your version of Microsoft Word must support Word JavaScript API v1.4 or higher.


💻 Supported Versions

The following versions of Microsoft Word support API v1.4 or higher and are known to work optimally with the Add-In:

  • Microsoft Word for Mac (Desktop)
    • Minimum: Version 16.64
    • Recommended: Version 16.78 or higher for best performance

      Microsoft Word for Windows (Desktop)

    • Minimum: Office Version 2208 (Build 15601.20148)

      Microsoft 365 Word (Desktop or Web)

    • Fully supported
    • Word Online is feature-complete for the SimpleDocs Add-In

      Microsoft Word 2021 (Perpetual License)

    • Supported

🔍 How to Check Your Version

On Mac:

  1. Open Word.
  2. Click Word in the top menu > About Microsoft Word .
  3. If your version is below 16.64, update via the Mac App Store or Microsoft AutoUpdate.

On Windows:

  1. Open Word.
  2. Go to File > Account .
  3. Under About Word, check your version. If it's below Version 2208 (Build 15601.20148), update via Microsoft Update.

🌐 Optional: Use Word Online

If you're unable to update immediately, consider testing the Add-In using Word Online. It is fully supported and lets you explore all SimpleDocs Add-In features without local setup.
